On February 25, 2025, members of the Ukrainian-Australian Association of Northern Territory (UAANT) had the honor of attending a special gathering at Parliament House to mark the beginning of Orthodox Great Lent 2025. The event was hosted by Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro MLA and brought together members of the Orthodox community to reflect on the spiritual significance of this sacred time.
A Gathering of Faith and Community
The evening was a symbol of unity, where people of different backgrounds came together to celebrate faith, culture, and resilience. It was a privilege to meet the Chief Minister, express our gratitude for the continued support of the Orthodox community, and acknowledge the importance of spiritual and cultural inclusivity in the Northern Territory.
The Meaning of Great Lent
Great Lent is a time of deep reflection, prayer, and renewal. It is a journey of spiritual discipline, self-examination, and preparation for Easter. For Orthodox Christians, this period represents an opportunity to strengthen faith, seek peace, and foster compassion towards others.
A Message of Gratitude
We extend our sincere thanks to the NT Government for promoting diversity and ensuring that all communities feel welcome and supported. We are also grateful to everyone who attended, making this event even more meaningful.
As we embark on this sacred season, we wish peace, strength, and spiritual growth to all observing Great Lent. May this journey bring renewed faith, hope, and unity within our community.
🙏 Wishing everyone a blessed and meaningful Lenten season.
